Fall colors, hiking trails, and live demonstrations and trails bring hundreds to the Indiana Dunes National Park on weekends in October.
“The fall foliage, the colors, even the storms bring an entirely different flavor to the Park during this time of year,” said Kelly Caddell, park guide for the national park. “I started here on the farm at age 17, and I never left,” said Caddell, speaking of her many years as a volunteer, and now as a paid employee. “This is the best job I could ever have imagined, and I’m just so happy this worked out for me.
Wendy Davis of Vermont, and Barb Baird of Indianapolis, along with border collie Star, visit Chellberg Farm and watch the feeding of the animals on Sunday, Oct. 22, 2023. Later in the afternoon, Caddell walked with visitors through the barns to help feed the chickens and the cows. “We made some loops on the trails and ended up back here. It is such a beautiful place,” said Wendy Davis, visiting from Vermont with her friend, Barb Baird of Indianapolis. “Today was the perfect fall day.
