Monday brings him a low-profile game but one perhaps no less memorable when Carrington coaches against son Darren Carrington II in a 6:05 p.m. Indoor Football League contest between the San Diego Strike Force and Massachusetts Pirates at Pechanga Arena.
Darren, 27, had dinner Sunday with dad and mom, Vickie, to celebrate Mother’s Day. A receiver, he’ll face a defense for which his dad calls plays. DiJonai Carrington, 24, won’t be able to join the family fun; a basketball player with the WNBA’s Connecticut Sun, she’ll be back east. Strike Force President Vivian Lin called Carrington “the inspiration behind the culture of our team.”
“I remember the defense being able to close the game out,” he said of the 17-13 victory as a 6-point underdog, “and I definitely remember us coming back here and having that warm welcome at the stadium.”
