COSTA MESA — The Chargers signed kicker Cameron Dicker to their practice squad Thursday after Taylor Bertolet injured his quadriceps in practice Wednesday. Bertolet was signed last month after Dustin Hopkins injured his quad making a tackle on a kickoff and then his hamstring while kicking.
In addition to probably playing without Keenan Allen, who has a nagging hamstring injury, and Mike Williams , the Chargers are also without wide receiver Jaylen Guyton , cornerback J.C. Hopkins injured his quad while making a tackle on a kickoff during the Chargers’ victory Oct. 2 over the Houston Texans. Bertolet, 30, filled in for Hopkins and kicked three field goals and three extra points in his NFL debut in the Chargers’ victory Oct. 9 over the Cleveland Browns. Now, the job falls to Dicker, a 22-year-old who was born in Hong Kong and lived in China until his family returned to the United States when he was 11. He told the Philadelphia Inquirer he began kicking in middle school and earned the “Dicker the Kicker” nickname from a science teacher.
