Letters to the Editor: Vote yes on noncitizen voting ban. Columbus needs to 'be in the room where it happens.'
. It was adopted by the city of Columbus and has served our citizens well for over 100 years.
Proposed charter amendment 20 will not serve our fellow citizens’ best interest. This is true for all who work for our city, but particularly true for our police and fire public safety forces. It is especially important that those who protect us from harmNoncitizens should get to vote ban. I vividly recall my parents talking about my becoming"un ciudadano americano." It had a magical feel to it. It still does.
Regarding Asli Ali's Oct. 30 letter,"Issue 2 bad for democracy," it is true that noncitizen immigrants are affected by local decisions. Some cities across the country . The logical extension is that legal and illegal immigrants are affected by state and federal laws. It would only be a matter of time before the argument is made to extend to all elections.
