REDLANDS — Chaminade football coach David Machuca entered Friday night’s second-round CIF Southern Section Division 2 game with a plan to mix the passing game with the running game. That plan didn’t last after the first half.
“Our ability to run the ball was the difference,” Machuca said. “We told our offensive line that the game was theirs to win.” For the rest of the game, Chaminade running backs J.B. Barbarin and Logan Carpenter managed to run the ball. Barbarin and Logan each had two rushing touchdowns. Of the team’s 29 second-half plays, only one was a pass.
