Officer Derek Oleszczuk was working out when he noticed another gym customer collapse, according to a news release from the Northern York Regional Police Department.

Derek Oleszczuk is used to responding to calls for help while working as a Northern Lancaster County Regional Police officer. But he recently encountered an emergency off-duty, while working out at his local gym. His quick actions along with another bystander helped to save a person’s life,Oleszczuk said he was exercising inside the Vitality Fitness gym located at 350 North Reading Road in Ephrata when he saw an adult collapse because of a suspected cardiac event. Oleszczuk along with another bystander recognized the issue and immediately performed CPR, police say.
