Another batch of countries just added to the United States’ “avoid travel” list

Last week, the CDC added Italy, Greenland and the island of Mauritius to a Level 4 designation. The week before that, the “avoid travel” grew by seven: France, Portugal, Liechtenstein, Cyprus, Andorra, Tanzania and Jordan.. Notably, the United States is also shaded dark red on the CDC’s world map, as it has been for much of the pandemic. U.S. citizens can travel from the United States to Spain as tourists if they show proof of vaccination and present a QR code generated through the Earlier this month, the U.S. has also for international travelers arriving in the country, including returning Americans. All international arrivals, vaccinated and unvaccinated, need to provide a negative test for Covid-19 no more than one day before boarding their flight.

In contrast to the many protocols for international travel, the United States has neither a vaccine requirement nor pre-flight testing mandate for domestic air travel. There also is no national contact tracing program in place for airline passengers flying within the United States, and no way for Americans flying domestically to know whether they may have been exposed to a fellow passenger infected with Covid-19.
