With the enactment of the New Deal in the 1930s, the federal government established the Federal Housing Administration and the Home Owners’ Loan Corporation to help Americans buy homes. “This study really helped us understand what determined which things were the most salient in the decision to redline a neighborhood,” said associate professor in medicine and sociology Adam Perzynski, who co-authored the study.
