Latest Nottingham Forest news as Reds Under-21s face Cumbrians in EFL Trophy clash at Brunton Park
The selection decisions do not get any easier for Nottingham Forest head coach Steve Cooper. The Reds have competition for places right across the pitch following their impressive transfer window. And as the summer signings have gradually been eased into action, they have started to show what they can do. Players who weren’t even in the match squad a few weeks ago have now cemented their place in the starting XI.
Forest have shown flexibility in formation, so the system and personnel Cooper goes with will sometimes depend on the opposition. A 4-3-3 has worked well but there are merits to a 4-2-3-1, while playing with three at the back and wing-backs is also a possibility. Injuries, too, have an impact on what line-up the Welshman can go with. But when everyone is fit, the Reds have the makings of a very good side. Arguably, Cooper’s strongest XI now is different to what it was a few weeks ago.
