He's been a key architect of California's health care policy, an advisor to governors, and a major influencer in Sacramento — now Daniel Zingale announces he'll retire from Newsom administration
As a veteran of Capitol policy battles, Zingale was considered an essential part of Newsom's Horseshoe, providing decades of Sacramento experience to a team that includes leaders from the D.C. Beltway to San Francisco.
Newsom's chief of staff, Ann O'Leary, also praised Zingale, saying in a statement that "Daniel’s wise counsel has been immeasurably helpful to me, the governor and the entire office.'' Calling him "a senior statesman for Horseshoe staff,'' she credits him with "helping to engage and lift up our diverse communities and charting a vision for a more inclusive California.
Newsom's office also announced that Lourdes M. Castro Ramírez, 49, a former top official at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, will serve as secretary of the Business, Consumer Services and Housing Agency. Castro Ramírez has been president of the University Health Systems Foundation in San Antonio since 2017.
In addition, Vito Imbasciani, 73, of Los Angeles, has been reappointed secretary of the California Department of Veterans Affairs, the governor's office said.
