An Alabama man has a capital murder charge against him dropped but remains jailed on a charge in an unrelated case.
Birmingham police investigate the 2019 shooting death of 27-year-old Michael James Weeks on Court M. Cantrell Devonte Furr, 23,He was arrested in February 2020 and held without bond for almost a year before he was released on $150,000 bail.
After making the emergency call, authorities said the residents went outside to investigate. They found the wounded Weeks in a vehicle that had rolled back into another vehicle. Furr was arrested eight months later by ATF’s violent crimes task force, which included Birmingham police investigators. He was arrested at the Atlanta airport as he was arriving from California.
