An official Dallas County vote center sign in Dallas in November 2022.The filing period for Dallas elections starts Wednesday, Jan. 18, and in the spring voters will elect a mayor and at least two new council members and decide who sits in the remaining 12 district seats.Johnson announced in September that he would be seeking another four-year term.
If any of the races for mayor or city council end with no candidate receiving more than 50% of the vote, the top two vote getters will move to a runoff in June. Of the council members representing the city’s 14 districts, two have hit term limits after serving eight years over four terms: Casey Thomas, representing District 3 in southwest Dallas including the Mountain Creek area, and Adam McGough, representing District 10 in northeast Dallas including the Lake Highlands area.
As of Monday, it appears the city’s incumbents for mayor and the 12 remaining council seats will all be seeking reelection., which is necessary for fundraising. The filing period for Dallas elections ends Feb. 17. Here’s a list so far of who has either filed a campaign treasurer appointment notice with the city and/or announced publicly that they are running. This list will be updated as candidates qualify for a spot on the May 6 ballot.
