Despite having his senior year interrupted by a cancer diagnosis, Triston Brashears refused to give up.

PUBLISHED 2:57 PM CDT Apr. 08, 2022SAN ANTONIO — Triston Brashears did not grow up loving sports. When he first started playing, he wasn’t very good and wasn’t enjoying himself. But he didn’t stop going out there, and eventually fell in love with sports — especially baseball. He was diagnosed with cancer in October of 2021Brashears recovered and returned in time for the baseball season

“It was heartbreaking because cancer, when you hear that it’s like the end of the world,” Triston says“I literally about threw up and I broke down crying,” says Kris Cavazos, Navarro’s head baseball coach. “It broke my heart for him. I can’t stand to see him in pain,” says Amber Brashears. “It truly crushed me. So I stayed in the hospital with him and at home with him. I smothered him with attention and love.”

“The very first time he came out to swing the bat, he smokes one to left field like it was nothing,” says Coach Cavazos. “I pretty much tear up every time I see him go to the box.”
