Can Malik Willis succeed in his next start? TitanUp
reaggravated an ankle injury in Sunday’s loss to the Los Angeles Chargers. The NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero is reporting that Tannehill is unlikely to play against the Texans, paving the way for Willis to make his third career start. Willis would possess an opportunity to showcase growth as a first-year signal-caller.
Should Willis start, it will ironically be his second start of the campaign against the Texans. Tannehill missed Tennessee’s first meeting against Houston with a similar ankle injury. Willis’didn’t highlight a quarterback that was ready for immediate playing time. Willis completed 6-of-10 passing attempts for 55 yards. A second start against a common opponent would provide Willis with a like-for-like opportunity to prove he’s learned from missed opportunities.
The Titans would likely attempt to employ a similar Henry-based strategy against the Texans on Saturday, but Tennessee’s running game hasn’t been quite as successful as of late. Shortly after Henry’s historic performance against Houston, the former Alabama standout went through a difficult four-game stretch. From Weeks 10 to 13, Henry failed to record a single 100-yard performance. Henry averaged 2.77 yards per carry in those four lackluster contests.
