Darwen's MP has called on the borough council to scrap the bus lane on the A666 which leads from the town to the M65.
Figures obtained from Blackburn Council show that in the last 12 months 2,689 unauthorised vehicles used the bus lane and 350 Penalty Charge Notices were issued. Many emergency services vehicles have also been forced to use the bus lane to escape the congestion.A recent straw poll on the Rossendale and Darwen Conservative MP’s Facebook page saw residents vote 96 per cent in favour of scrapping the bus lane and turning off the traffic lights.
“They’ve done nothing to help reduce congestion and its only getting worse as a result of their uncontrolled development plans.”
