Nottinghamshire Police said high-visibility police patrols will be seen across the tram network
Calls have been made for security staff on trams and checks prior to people boarding following a fatal stabbing in Nottingham. The man, who has not yet been formally identified by police, sadly died at the scene at the Highbury Vale tram stop, between Cinderhill and Bulwell, on Monday, June 26.
Reflecting on whether the incident has changed anything, he added: "It gives you a feeling of unsafety in the area. It would be nice to see more people [of authority] on trams, even if it is just conductors.Sam Mee, who is a mum of two teenagers, said: "I was in town when that happened. I was not warry until I got home."But just knowing that happened in that area makes me worried because my children's dad lives in Bulwell. My children get on that tram.
Ms Mee added: "The CCTV is good but it is not going to stop crime. When they had conductors on the tram, that might make people feel safer. And it might make a criminal think twice for that matter. It is worth a try." John Graham, from Radford, agreed there should be more security on trams, adding: "When it first started, you would buy a ticket on the tram from a conductor."
"It is a bit worrying that it was so close [to where I live]. It could be any of us - you could just get on the tram and something could happen.
