California officials are asking residents to conserve energy as the San Francisco Bay Area experiences its hottest-ever recorded temperature.
The temperature in Livermore, an area in the eastern part of the Bay Area, reached a temperature of 116 degrees, an all-time record, according to the National Weather Service. The heat wave is pushing California's power grid to the brink, resulting in many Californian officials, including Gov. Gavin Newsom , asking residents to limit their energy use.
"This heat wave is on track to be the hottest and the longest on record for this state and many parts of the West for the month of September. Californians, you've stepped up in a big way to keep the lights on so far. But we're heading into the worst part of this heat wave, and the risk for outages is real and its immediate," the California governor said in a video posted to his Twitter account.
"Precool your home, run your air conditioning earlier in the day when more power is available. ... Close your windows and blinds to keep your home cool as well. And today and tomorrow, after 4 p.m., ... turn your thermostat up to 78 degrees or higher, and avoid to any extent possible using any really large appliances," he added.CLICK HERE TO READ MORE FROM THE WASHINGTON EXAMINER
