Ben Smith is exiting as Buzzfeed’s new chief after creating the news division in 2012 that became a Pulitzer Prize finalist in 2018
Ben Smith, the founding editor of BuzzFeed News, said on Tuesday he is leaving the company, where he helped turn a startup best known for whimsical online quizzes and listicles into a formidable news organization.
Mr. Smith, a veteran of Politico and the New York Daily News, was hired in 2012 to create a news division for BuzzFeed. He said in a memo to staff that he would be joining the New York Times as a media columnist.
