Bus drivers in Glasgow have taken part in hands-on training to understand the experiences of blind and partially sighted passengers.

First Glasgow held a Swap-With-Me event in which members of the national sight loss charity Royal National Institute of Blind People They also told how drivers' actions can help make bus travel as accessible as possible for all users.

Those with sight loss also had the chance to sit in the cab to get a better sense of what the job involves from the driver's perspective.Tony O’Connor, head of operations for First Glasgow, said:"We were delighted to welcome RNIB Scotland to our Caledonia depot to speak to many of our drivers. "They interact with thousands of members of the public throughout Glasgow each day and giving them the opportunity to better understand the difficulties faced by people with sight loss will hopefully assist in providing an improved service to our customers in communities throughout Glasgow."

Jen Worral, 35, an RNIB Scotland community member who took part in the event, explained:"I particularly struggle to find space for me and my guide dog, and I can find it disorientating if there are no audio messages about upcoming stops like there are on trains. "I’ve often been forgotten about when I’ve asked for help in the past, so it’s very important to have sessions like this to make trainee drivers aware of visually impaired bus users and what can help us."
