A pair of budgies were rescued by a member of the public in Bonnyrigg before one sadly passed away.
A budgie has died after being left dumped in a plastic bag near to a charity clothing bank amid cold, wet weather.
Senior Inspector Jenny Scott said: “The budgies were found in a tiny cage covered with a plastic bag. They had been left beside a charity clothing bin in cold and rainy conditions with no food or water. “We appreciate that whoever left the budgies may have intended for them to be found but this is not the correct way to give up a pet if you can no longer care for them.
