.BudLight tweeted for the first time in almost two weeks on Friday night, and many people did not take the return to social media lightly. 'TGIF?' the account tweeted.
Prior to Friday, the Bud Light Twitter account's last statement had been made on April 1, shortly after it was revealed that the popular beer brand had hired transgender social media star Dylan Mulvaney, a biological man who identifies as a woman, for an ad campaign for the beer featuring Mulvaney's face on the beer cans. On Friday, the account tweeted out"TGIF?," an acronym standing for"thank God it's Friday." TGIF? pic.twitter.
“We never intended to be part of a discussion that divides people," the statement titled"Our Responsibility to America" read."We are in the business of bringing people together over a beer." During a recent appearance on a podcast, Mulvaney described being an"easy target," and the reason for being a target for online criticism is because"I'm still new to this."“I think going after a trans woman who has been doing this for 20 years is a lot more difficult," said Mulvaney.
Following the Bud Light controversy, Seth Weathers, the founder of Freedom Speaks Up, a conservative lifestyle brand, introduced a new beer called"Conservative Dad's Ultra Right," which comes in a patriotic-painted can with the promise it is a “100% Woke-Free American Beer.”
