Allred wants to exploit any unpopularity Cruz may have with general election voters, so he’ll contrast their positions on issues like health care, curbing gun violence and women’s reproductive rights early and often.That tactic is different from the one O’Rourke used against Cruz in 2018. Largely unknown at the time, O’Rourke campaigned in all of Texas’ 254 counties. He developed legions of followers with his soaring oratory and grassroots activity.
“He’s more interested in getting on Fox News and doing three podcasts a week,” Allred said of Cruz. “I’ve been trying to do the hard work of finding common ground and passing legislation and representing folks who I think deserve to have somebody who’s actually fighting for them.” The rumbles include his 2012 clashes with Senate rival and former Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst, aggressive contrasts against O’Rourke and his deeply personal 2016 presidential primary election exchanges with Donald Trump, who went on to win the White House.
Sen. Ted Cruz addressed Title 42 immigration policy on May 3. A group of Republican senators spoke out against the expiration of Title 42, saying it would be detrimental for southern states along the U.S.-Mexico border.“The people of Texas don’t support trillions in spending in debt and rapid inflation. The people of Texas don’t support open borders. And the people of Texas don’t support left-wing assaults on oil and gas production,” he said.
