In an exclusive interview with the ECHO, the Jackie Corkhill star hailed her Merseyside roots as she prepares to return to the city for a brand new play
The soap star is renowned for her iconic roles as Gloria Todd in Coronation Street and Jackie Corkhill in Brookside. Away from the world of TV, the 65-year-old has also forged a successful career on the stage and is currently starring in Cuckoo at the Royal Court Theatre in London.
It has been a long time since Sue last performed in front of a Liverpool crowd and she is looking forward to returning to a place that will always have a special place in her heart. She said: "Whatever you do and where you go, you never lose your roots and you never lose your pride in the city. You never lose that."
"I remember being a kid and going across the Mersey with tins of stewed steak in sandwiches on the ferry, I won't be doing that anymore. Not least because I don't eat meat!" She said: "We were ahead of the game, it was like shooting a film everyday. It was so real. Even the stories that people said were far-fetched like a pandemic that took over and meant everyone had to lock themselves in their houses. Who knew?"
The star revealed she was relieved to be able to attend the event after her work commitments with Cuckoo fortunately forced a change to her schedule. She said: "Originally, I was asked if the three of us could do it together and I went, 'Oh no, I'm going to be away'. But the way luck would have it, it was great. For the three of us to walk on to the theme music again and give the best family award out was very special.
