Brodie Croft is a wanted man at Headingley.
Leeds Rhinos are hoping to finalise an agreement with Salford Red Devils in the coming days that will see them move a step closer to signing Brodie Croft. Rugby League Live revealed on Tuesday that Leeds had tabled a six-figure big for the current Man of Steel amid more financial hardship for Salford.
The Reds are thought to be open to selling Croft, despite only signing him to a historic contract several months back. The club's managing director, Paul King, is understood to have held conversations with Gary Hetherington as they try to thrash out a deal. As it stands, no agreement is thought to have been reached but there is an expectation that will happen in the coming days.
Salford are thought to be chasing a club-record fee for Croft, months after securing the same when they sold prop Tyler Dupree to Wigan Warriors. It's anticipated that the package will end up being somewhere in the region of £200,000. Of course, for Salford it will also see their highest earner go off the books. Croft was made the club's marquee player earlier this season and is one of the highest-paid players in Super League.
Once an agreement is reached it will be down to Leeds to agree personal terms with Croft. Of course, the halfback currently has a long-term deal, with NRL clauses, in his existing contract, though it's expected that Leeds would want a contract to look different given the fee involved with the deal. The Rhinos still have two quota spots to use, with Nene Macdonald also leaving the club. As a result, further recruitment is still expected before the 2024 season. So far, they have signed Lachie Miller, Matt Frawley and Mickael Goudemand. Castleford Tigers prop Kieran Hudson is also set to arrive.
