Bridgeland head coach Candi Weige earned her 200th career win after the Lady Bears went 2-0 on day one of the Cy-Fair Varsity Tournament on Thursday, March 3. Pitcher Makenzi Jenkins, holding the plaque, helped with 78 of those wins.Candi Weige has found small successes at all the stops she’s made throughout her softball coaching career.
“It’s kind of hard to put into words how blessed I feel being a part of this game and what this game has done for me over the last 30 years that I’ve been playing and coaching,” Weige said. It’s a huge accomplishment, Weige said, then again, it continually makes her want to strive to get 200 more. She said trusting one another makes winning easier.
The Lady Bears are coming off a 29-win season, earned 14 victories in 2020 and 21 three years ago. Weige said the athletes that have played under here these past five years simply carry a different mentality and thought process of winning and reaching the postseason.“The game is growing and we as coaches have to grow along with our student athletes,” Weige said. “I think it’s important for all of our kids to strive to be able to get 30 wins a season, if they can, and that’s a big deal for us.
“Every loss that we endure we constantly try to build off of that and see what we can do better to be able to take care of business the next time that we might see that team,” Weige said.
