The man at the center of the NCAA investigation into the Michigan football program has broken his silence.
In a statement released through his attorney, Stalions made clear that head coach Jim Harbaugh had no knowledge regarding the recent allegations of advanced scouting. After both ESPN and Yahoo Sports initially reported that Stalions had been fired earlier today, reports later clarified that Stalions had resigned his position with Michigan.
Although the NCAA investigation is still ongoing, there is significant pressure from prominent figures within the Big Ten conference - including a majority of head coaches and athletic directors - urging commissioner Tony Petitti to hand down a punishment immediately. Petitti was in Ann Arbor and reportedly met with University of Michigan president Santa Ono, although details of what occurred during that meeting aren't yet clear. What is clear is that Michigan will play Purdue tomorrow night, and that Jim Harbaugh is likely to be on the sideline coaching in that game.
Beyond this weekend, it remains to be seen if the Big Ten is prepared to act without a completed investigation by the NCAA.
