BP shareholders voted overwhelmingly on May 21 to require the oil major’s management to disclose how the company intends to comply with the Paris climate accord’s goals designed to limit global warming.
A total of 99.1% of votes cast were in favor of the motion, brought by an association of roughly 340 institutional investors called Climate Action 100+. The motion was also supported by the BP board. A second resolution requiring BP to develop more precise targets to reduce emissions, backed by pressure group Follow This, was rejected by 91.7% of investors voting. It was not backed by the company’s board.
