‘Unwise and unsustainable’ for Boris Johnson to stay on as PM until October, says John Major
Former Prime Minister John Major has said it would be ‘unwise’ for Boris Johnson to stay on as Prime Minister until October are “unwise and maybe unsustainable”, former prime minister Sir John Major has said.
He suggested deputy PM Dominic Raab could take over until a new leader is elected or the 1922 Committee could select an MP to be installed as prime minister. Sir John ended the letter by writing: “Neither of these options is ideal, but the interests of the country must be given priority over all else and, with so many long-term and critical issues before us, an imaginative response – even at the risk of some bruised feelings within the party – is most definitely in the national interest.
“In view of the wide and national concern over this matter, I am releasing this letter to the media.”
