Boris Johnson knew of media reports about the conduct of Chris Pincher when he made him deputy chief whip but felt he could not act on unsubstantiated claims, Downing Street has confirmed
the appointment of Mr Pincher as Tory deputy chief whip was another example of poor judgment by Mr Johnson.
Speaking to Sky News' Kay Burley earlier, education minister Will Quince said he has been given"categorical assurance" from Number 10 that Mr Johnson was"not aware of any serious specific allegations" against Mr Pincher, when he was appointed.
Asked why he believed Mr Pincher was appointed to the post in the first place, he added:"The values of this country are about innocence until proven guilty."Chris Pincher was appointed deputy chief whip in February, but resigned last week
