Borderlands 3 makes a great first impression, but it does raise at least a few red flags that should be examined before launch.

this past week, you’ll know that almost everyone who got their hands on an early preview is singing its praises. I had ais sticking to its core formula rather than chasing after the live service model, and with welcome additions like improved gunplay, it’s probably going to be a stellar release this fall.

With that said, I don’t think I should totally gloss over a few red flags that stood out to me while playing. None of these are big enough to make me worry about the overall fate of the game, but they stuck with me all the same. Some are long-timethings that I was hoping would be adjusted with a years-later sequel. Others are new issues.

Past this, it’s a bummer to me that vehicle navigation is still as poor as it is. You get one single waypoint on your map, but the game leaves it up to you to figure out how to get there. But not in a fun, explore the area way, but rather a “pause the game every ten seconds to check your map to make sure you didn’t miss your turn in these windy levels” way. For vehicles, just some sort of ghost GPS pointing you toward your destination in these open areas would be helpful.

What I gathered from playing both of them is that….I really wish there was a way to use more skills + grenades in total. Havingaction skill on three characters is weird, and Zane felt better because you were using more skills more often with two of them, and yet I did miss the ability to have a grenade.

Again, none of these issues are big enough scare me off of the game, but they did strike me as issues in an otherwise fantastic experience. Some may feel “core” to, as they’ve been in the game a while, but the point of a sequel is to improve areas that are lacking, and I feel that opportunity has been missed a few places here.
