'I have to be myself when I'm singing these songs or I can't sing them.' U2's Bono tells rachelnpr that he has to mix all of his personalities to perform his songs. He talks with Morning Edition about his memoir, 'Surrender: 40 Songs, One Story.'

: You write in the book,"If I was in a café right now, and someone said 'Stand up if you're ready to give your life to Jesus,' I'd be the first to my feet." But he stood by me, you know, and stood by us in our devotion.

[Your dad said, near the end of his life, that the most interesting thing about you was your spirituality, was your religion.
