Police and the Kendall County District Attorney’s Office suspect that other girls were assaulted from 2001 through 2022, though some women said his abuse started in the 1980s.
Michael Spiller, a gymnastics coach, was arrested on suspicion of indecency with a child, Kendall County officials said.A Texas gymnastics coach was arrested in Boerne last week, accused of abusing young girls under his tutelage since 1983.
Also on Tuesday morning, a Kendall County grand jury indicted Spiller on felony indecency, District Attorney Nicole Bishop said. She said that “Coach Mike” was instructing her class that day as a substitute for a coach who had COVID-19. She said Spiller put his hands inside the back of her leotard during vaulting exercises and touched her bottom twice.When her mother confronted Spiller, he denied the inappropriate conduct and apologized.
Perez said one accuser told police that during the Circus Arts for Kids camp at the Boerne Gymnastics Center, Spiller would transport a group of children from the gymnastics center to a bed and breakfast. Similar to a school lock-in, there were games and food as girls splayed their sleeping bags across the floor and played on the gym equipment around the building. Some people had propped up blue vinyl gym mats up against the wall as makeshift lean-to forts.There, she said, Spiller snuggled with her on top of sleeping bags and began massaging her thighs and hip while commenting on her muscles. Then, Whitney said, Spiller put his hand inside her underwear and massaged the outside of her vagina.
