Bob Goldsholl, a prolific sports TV and radio presence from the 1970s through the 1990s, has died at 89 near his Connecticut home.
An incurable gentleman, Goldsholl spent years as a Nets pregame and postgame host on SportsChannel, a solid sports anchor on Ch. 11 and Ch. 2 newscasts, as well as an essayist for Bloomberg Radio.A tall, formidable pitcher from Upper Manhattan, he led NYU to the 1956 College World Series. He was later elected to NYU’s Sports Hall of Fame and served as NYU’s sports information director.
Goldsholl, who died from dementia, is survived by his wife of 35 years, Nancy, six children, five grandchildren and a legion of men and women he mentored in everything from tennis to TV, because it was the right thing to do — and his pleasure.
