“You love to see these guys grow and there will be a day when we won’t be one of the youngest teams in the league and we won’t be banged up,” Larsen said. “It’ll be nice to have our group together and some of these guys maturing. Then, hopefully, you have a ton of hard decisions, where you’re going, ‘I can’t fit them all in .’ That’s where you want to get to, but for now, this is where we’re at and we’re going to keep pushing these guys.
Getting to that point is the hard part, especially with an injury-riddled roster. There are 52 games left in what’s become a full developmental season, and the Blue Jackets' future success depends on how much they grow. “That’s where we’re at,” Larsen said. “You’re watching these guys and you have to develop . That’s our No. 1 job at this point. We’re one of the youngest teams in the league, so that’s what we have to do. We’ll just keep grinding away at it.”is practicing without restrictions, but his return to games has yet to be determined. After missing six-plus weeks, Boqvist needs to get the rest of his body ready for game action.
“I’m not sure if he’s close,” Larsen said Friday after watching Boqvist practice with the team at Boston University’s Agganis Arena. “His body is healed up. Now we’ve got to get him back up to speed as best we can here before he gets into a game.”
