Many used needles were found inside the burning apartment in the 10 block of Westview Place, Saskatoon Fire Department said.
Saskatoon Fire Department said in a news release on Sunday that crews were called around 10 p.m. to the fire in the 10 block of Westview Place, where they arrived to find flames coming from the second floor of a 3-storey unit in a townhouse complex.
A fire that was started in the bedroom of a three-story unit in a townhouse complex in the 10 block of Westview Place and caused an estimated $75,000 in damage in Saskatoon on July 9, 2022 is being considered suspicious.The department said that because the units in the complex are attached crews worked on the ground to prevent the fire spreading to other units.
Many used needles were found inside the burning apartment, the department said, and the fire was brought under control at 10:25 p.m. A fire investigator determined that the unit was vacant but not secured and that someone was seen in the unit around 6:30 p.m. The investigator had the unit secured before leaving.
