Blackpool Council is cracking down on irresponsible dog owners
Tougher action is to be taken against irresponsible dog owners as part of a campaign to tackle dog mess around Blackpool. The council and its waste services company Enveco have teamed up to launch a new Bag It, Bin It campaign which began in October lasting three months, to raise awareness about the need to clean up after dogs.
It is also an offence to not have the means to pick up and officers will be raising awareness through educating and formally warning dog walkers of their responsibility to carry poo bags. Repeated warnings will result in a fixed penalty notice of £100 being issued. If the case goes to court this could cost the dog walker up to £1,000.While rare, contact with dog excrement can cause toxocariasis – an infection that can lead to dizziness, nausea, asthma, and even blindness or seizures.
