Electric scooter startup Bird has hiked fares in the U.K.
but its ambition to transform transportation in the British capital remains stalled at an East London park.
Bird has experimented with fares of up to 40p per minute for new riders on its electric scooters but settled on a modest 5p price rise to 25p per minute. The price change comes as Richard Corbett, head of Bird in the U.K. and Ireland, aims to improve the"unit economics" of the business which is currently confined to a small section of the site of the 2012 Olympics by a 189-year-old law.
"One thing we're understanding is what is the right price point," said Corbett."We're a growing startup and...businesses live and die by the unit economics."Forbes visited the company's office last Friday, we noticed that the price was 40p per minute. Corbett said that this was just a trial for new users, adding that it was due to end that day.that from Thursday onwards, the price per minute for a Bird scooter in the U.K. will be set at 25p .suggested Bird was increasing its pricing in some cities in a bid to boost its margins.
E-scooters are being sold as a greener and often quicker way to navigate cities than cars, buses, and trains.
