"Schools should be among the safest places for our children and educators, and there should be no doubt that they will return home at the end of the day," the governors wrote.
The governors said the solutions could include proposals on gun control, but given the partisan divide on the issue, reaching a consensus might be difficult., Democrats and Republicans disagreed on gun control measures. An 18-year-old gunman legally purchased several firearms in the days leading up to the shooting that left 19 students and two adults killed. Democrats said the shooting was the latest example of the need for
