Having been there herself, Billie wants to help others going through it now. 💚

, which aired onon January 23, Billie opened up about self-harm behaviors and being in a really dark place. “I was so unhappy last year,” she said of 2018, explaining how her quick skyrocket to fame left her feeling isolated and lonely, which fueled her depression. “I was so unhappy, and I was so, like, joyless…. I don't want to be dark, but I genuinely didn't think I would make it to 17.

“We checked in with her all the time about, 'Do you still want to do this?’” Billie’s mom, Maggie Baird, told King. “She loved doing the shows…that’s what kept her going.” Today, Billie seems to be in a better place. “I’ve been coming out of it,” she elaborated, noting that therapy, family support, and patience all played a role in helping her feel better. “It’s like the most freeing feeling to be able to come out of that shell.”

And because Billie is feeling better, she’s been able to reach out to her fans who are struggling with similar challenges. “I just grab them by the shoulders and I'm like, 'Please take care of yourself and be good to yourself and be nice to yourself,’” she said of meeting fans dealing with self-harm and depression. “‘Don't take that extra step and hurt yourself further and then you can't take it back.
