White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre confirmed Friday that Biden had accepted House Speaker Kevin McCarthy’s invitation to address a joint session of Congress Feb. 7. In his invitation to the president, McCarthy , referenced the 2022 midterms, which saw Republicans take back control of the House after four years out of the majority.
Every president since Franklin Delano Roosevelt has delivered State of the Union addresses in person, usually in late January or early February. Biden’s speech will be held on the second-latest date for a State of the Union address in modern times — behind only his first, which took place on March 1, 2022.
