The collision happened about 4:10 p.m. Thursday at the intersection of East 15th Street and Eighth Avenue.
Police said the 38-year-old bicyclist, an Oakland resident whose name was not released, was riding eastbound on East 15th Street in a dedicated bicycle lane when he entered the intersection at Eighth Avenue on a green light. He was then struck by a white Cadillac Escalade that was going southbound on Eighth Avenue that did not stop for a red light, police said.The SUV driver put the vehicle in reverse after the collision and drove away eastbound on East 15th Street, police said.
Investigators said speed appears to be a factor in the collision but it is not yet known if alcohol or drugs were. Police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering up to $5,000 in reward money for information leading to the arrest of the SUV driver.
