Everton are set to announce the signing of Portuguese striker Beto from Italian side Udinese
Everton’s summer-long search for a striker to ease their goal-scoring issues appears to have reached its conclusion.
The club have turned to another Portuguese forward, Beto, with the 25-year old set to be confirmed as an Everton player imminently after arriving on Merseyside over the bank holiday weekend for his medical ahead of sealing a €25m move from Serie A side Udinese that could rise up to €30m if add-ons are met.READ MORE: Everton transfer state of play as Beto will not be final deal done this week
This is a critical season for Everton. Losses over the last five years have totalled more than £430m, with the club’s financial picture over the last three years seeing them struggle to remain within the Premier League’s profit and sustainability regulations that limit losses to £105m over a three-year period.
Everton, while having reduced their wage bill fairly significantly in recent times, and through selling assets such as Gordon, Richarlison, Moise Kean and Lucas Digne, have made some headway in terms of trying to get back on a more even footing. But one of the main issues when seeking out deals is that the club have had to be mindful of their cash flow situation.
Everton have had to operate in the market knowing that they don’t have the greatest leverage when it comes to how they can set out payment terms to clubs, which has been impactful when negotiating with clubs. The Toffees greatest asset has been their globally known status and continued membership of the Premier League, the most watched league in the world which pays the biggest wages, save for the recent influx of cash in the Saudi Pro League.
