Sliver first opened in downtown Berkeley in 2013, a vegetarian pizza shop selling just one type of pizza per day on a sourdough crust, just like Cheese Board. Berkeley's iconic Cheese Board, which first opened as a cheese shop back in 1967, went on to become a worker-owned collective, pizzeria and bakery in addition to the cheese shop. Its unique pizza business model has inspired a number of similar Bay Area offshoots, from Arizmendi to Nabolom to Dimond Slice Pizza.
Just like Cheese Board and the rest, the aptly named Sliver is known for throwing in an additional smallwith every order. The new Uptown Oakland location features both indoor and outdoor seating, and is open for lunch and dinner daily. It is Sliver's fifth location, after opening a fourth location in Danville earlier this year. According to Sliver’s website, new locations in Oakland, Fremont and Lafayette are also coming soon.
