A church group from Bellingham on a tour in Israel is stuck in Jerusalem as the war between Israel and Hamas ravages the region.
A group from Christ the King Community Church in Bellingham is stuck in Jerusalem as their flights back home to Washington were canceled due to the war between Israel and Hamas in Gaza. The pastor of Christ the King Community Church posted updates on social media confirming the 57-person group is safe and they have been hours away from the warfare.
Their initial flight home, planned for Wednesday night, was canceled. They’re now planning to fly back in two groups, hoping to make it back to the Pacific Northwest by Friday.Another group member, Randy Bourland, said they were at a church in Jerusalem Saturday when they heard sirens sounding following the surprise attacks by Hamas.
We came outside and saw the contrail of a missile and the little white poof of an explosion at the Iron Dome," Bourland said. "I heard a siren and went inside and within minutes we were able to come out. The group said they have since continued sightseeing to keep busy while they await their flights back home. He said they are heartbroken over the violence, and seeing Jerusalem as a quiet place on Sunday on the national day of mourning.
He added that he's grateful the group has a tour guide from Israel who he said has been keeping them out of harm's way as they continue praying for all of the impacted families.
