'The priest who celebrated Caoimhín's funeral service said 'who else but Caoimhín Adams could have a Catholic church full of people dressed in orange on the 11th of July?''

The family of a young child who died after a brave health journey are continuing to ensure his legacy lives on.

Speaking to Belfast Live, Caoimhín's mum Caitriona said: " He was the youngest of four - Aimee, Dylan, Aodhán and then Caoimhín. He took ill about a year ago. He always had cerebral palsy and epilepsy and chronic lung disease but they were all managed well. "Caoimhín unfortunately didn't fall under any charities because his condition was not known in Ireland. I contacted different places. I reached out to Belfast City Airport, where he had an amazing day. The staff gave him such a memorable day. Smyths in Newtownabbey also were brilliant, the staff gave him an unbelievable day.

Unbeknown to the family, the council had arranged for a special photo book to be produced, in memory of Caoimhín after his death. On Tuesday, September 26, the family was invited to council offices for an intimate presentation. "There is treatment that could have been done, but because we didn't know anything about ROHHAD, we couldn't.

"Caoimhín is changing things now. His legacy is continuing every day. When he was diagnosed with ROHHAD, I discussed with a number of medics in the Royal about setting up a Facebook page about his journey, and that has actually reached people in France, Netherlands, Norway and all parts of England, Scotland and Wales - that is outstanding.

"When Caoimhin was Caoimhin, he was such a character. The priest who celebrated Caoimhín's funeral service said 'who else but Caoimhín Adams could have a Catholic church full of people dressed in orange on the 11th of July?' The Mayor got to work on how the Council could offer support for this event, and was able to provide the family with practical support; gazebo’s, tables, arranging waste collections and a photographer to capture the events of the day.
