Thank you for reply, I have been given a studio apartment for now. Which is a lot better than the hotel as I can thankfully cook. But it’s literally a small room with a cooker and fridge. I am just now worried as I won’t even be able to fit a cot into this small space. I’ve asked for this to be reviewed as it’s not suitable whatsoever for when my baby is born. It’s just one worry after another..
Postpartum can be a stressful period for any woman, but it may be more so in such a cramped environment. Please speak to your midwife, GP and health visitor . They will be able to write letters to the local authority supporting a move into at least a one bedroom flat with separate kitchen/living space.
If you haven’t already, find your local authority’s housing policy and look at how priority is assessed. In particular, look at how many bed spaces you need, how many you have and what the priority banding should be if you do not have enough bed spaces - bed spaces literally meaning space for a bed, not bedroom.
A studio flat has one bed space. You need 2. So you are going to be over occupied. I feel your local authority are fobbing you off by suggesting you could stay there for 6 months after the baby is born. Please speak to shelter, your local citizens advice, and your healthcare team. You need people on your side applying pressure to the local authority.
