Bay Area suburbs race to catch eye of I-45 drivers with pair of dueling developments

, Webster later became a medical hub with a high-tech area built around NASA's Johnson Space Center Now, it aims to become the retail and entertainment center of the Bay Area.

But just across the river in League City, another project is also angling to get the attention of visitors. Plans for Riverview at Clear Creek, a 70-acre development owned by New York-based WB Property Group, include apartments, offices, shops, a 150-room Aloft Hotel and a 60-boat marina. A boardwalk and amphitheater will mirror the amenities being built north of the river.

"Hopefully people won't pass us by on the way to Galveston, now that we're right on I-45," said Sarah Osborne, communications director for League City."We're growing like crazy and all trying to work together to promote the area."
