Although it somewhat resembles the top half of a suit of armor, it's technically classified as a piece of clothing. Player characters can wear both clothes and armor at the same time, with each piece potentially providing a wide range of Armor Class boosts and unique effects.
More importantly, the robe also gives the user the ability to cast lunar bulwark once per long rest. This is effectively a reskinned, Selûne-themed version of the more generic spell mage armor, which buffs a character's defense by changing their AC to the sum of 13 and their Dexterity modifier. It also provides a bonus of one point to all Saving Throws, and a status effect called Selûne's Protection.
Cons Of The Moon Devotion Robe In Baldur's Gate 3 Again, getting the Moon Devotion Robe always ends with killing Isobel. This may be done as part of the Dark Urge's unique questline, or just as a random act of violence. Simply allowing Isobel to die during the battle at Last Light Inn won't get the party her robe, as Flaming Fist Marcus will fly off with her, so the party will have to get their hands dirty.
Killing Isobel also locks the side quest "Capture Isobel the Selûnite cleric." This may be granted by Ketheric Thorm at Moonrise Towers later in the game's second act. This quest is only worth undertaking on an evil playthrough. Failing to deliver Isobel to Ketheric means the party will have to find another way to obtain an audience with The Absolute - in most cases, that means killing Ketheric, too.
