San Diego State senior has time to properly prepare for coming season after being thrust into starting QB role last year following switch to safety

Jalen Mayden took great satisfaction last year in quickly and successfully moving midseason from safety to starting quarterback for San Diego State.

“I really take that to heart,” Mayden said. “It’s me throwing three interceptions — balls that didn’t even get a chance to touch the receivers’ hands — or I made the wrong read. ... I’m most disappointed in myself and how I played those last two or three games.” San Diego State quarterback Jalen Mayden takes a snap at Monday’s practice, the first of 15 offseason workouts.

Mayden had five days to prepare for his starting debut against Hawaii. He now gets six months to prep for the 2023 season opener against Ohio.
