It doesn't sell bread but it serves pasties, cakes and coffee

A bakery with award-winning pasties, buttery Viennoiserie, cakes, bakes, tortilla and ethically sourced coffee is planning to open in Nottingham. The Cornish Bakery has more than 50 sites around England including Birmingham, Stamford, and Truro.

This will be the first branch in Nottinghamshire. It is an eat-in or take-out bakery with Cornish roots. The chain also delivers pasties and sausage rolls by post. Feta swirls, ham hock toasties, savoury scones and their "famous" cheese straws are amongst the other items on sale. Earlier this year the bakery announced plans to double or triple in size. Founded in 1994, Cornish Bakery opened nine new stores in 2023 and hopes to reach 100 outlets by 2025, becoming one of the leading modern high-end bakeries globally.

“We are not your local bakery to get your daily bread, in fact we do not even sell bread. We simply want to nourish our customers with the freshest possible quality food washed down by the best imaginable coffee,” he said. The company, accredited as 'outstanding to work for 2023' by Best Companies, is advertising the job of assistant bakery manager with a salary of up to £27,000 a year. The exact location in Nottingham and opening date have not been revealed.

Ted Baker to close Nottingham store as brand falls into administrationTed Baker to close Nottingham store as brand falls into administrationDesigner clothing shop Ted Baker is set to close its Nottingham store this month after the brand fell into administration. The luxury clothing brand entered administration last month, when No Ordinary Designer Label (NODL), owned by Authentic Brands Group (ABG) and trading as Ted Baker, appointed consulting firm Teneo to oversee the process. The administrators have now confirmed the brand's only standalone Nottinghamshire location, which is on Bridlesmith Gate in Nottingham city centre, will be closed within the next two weeks. In total across Ted Baker's UK 86 stores, 145 redundancies are now expected to be made, with 120 store staff alongside 25 head office roles set to go. All 11 of the closing stores are expected to be permanently shut by Friday, April 19. The brand's entire store portfolio has been "loss-making" and administrators say the sites have no prospect of being returned to profitability, even with material rent reductions.
